Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening has advanced greatly in recent years and is an easy way to brighten-up your smile.

There are 2 main treatment approaches (Home Kit and In-office whitening) both of which are safe and effective if diagnosis is correct and appropriate
instructions followed:

Tooth Whitening can be used in the following situations

• Lightening the overall appearance of your teeth
• Masking discoloured teeth
• Removing stains -from tea, coffee, smoking
• Prior to cosmetic treatments for optimal effects
• Porcelain bonded to metal crowns and bridges

Home Kit Tooth Whitening

With this method customised trays are made for you. These trays are constructed on casts/ models of your teeth and gums. The gum contour is accurately outlined. A space is incorporated between the front surfaces of your teeth and the tray. This space is a reservoir for the tooth whitening gel.

Once fabricated, the fit of your trays will be assessed. You will then be provided with a course of Tooth Whitening Gel and instructed upon its use.

Most Home Tooth Whitening systems require a 3-4 week period of daily use (up to 2 hours a day). It is not necessary to use your system at night.
For quicker results you my use for more than 2 hours a day but the gel should be replenished afer 2 hours of use.

In many cases, depending upon your initial appearance, results of up to 2 shades lighter may be achieved by using the above regime.

In-office Tooth Whitening

For more instant results your teeth can be lightened at the surgery. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour. Initially, your teeth will appear lighter than they will over the next few days. This is due to a degree of rehydration of your teeth following the procedure.

For those wishing for an optimal bright white smile quickly we advise a combination the In-office system followed by the use of the Home Kit.
